Dear sisters and brothers in Christ,

On Thursday 14 April and Saturday 16 April 2016, a massive earthquake struck KUMAMOTO area, and we are still experiencing aftershocks. As reported, there have been about 30 dead and more than 1500 people injured. And there are many people who are staying at shelters. There are also many damages of homes, buildings, roads, and in mountain areas. It is very painful to face all these situations. How anxious and terrifying must be for the victim of this earthquake, experiencing big aftershocks and not knowing what will be next in this situation. And it is also very hard for the victim to lose their homes where mornings and nights are still chilly. I’m praying for those who suffer great damage from this Earthquake and we, Diocese of Fukuoka, are with you in your pains and sorrows.

We, Diocese of Fukuoka, are trying to gather the information as soon/much as possible for us to be able to offer necessary support for the victim.

We ask your prayers for the victim and people in these areas for them to have comfort and enough strength to go through this situation and for them to have quick recovery from this damage. Please offer special prayers for this intention, especially at Mass of Sunday 17 April. And we also ask your donations to support the victim. Where it is possible, please also consider to offer places at your parishes and institutions for those in need.

Let us put our hearts and hands together in this difficult situations, and stay close to the victim by following our Merciful Lord and receiving His grace.

Bp. Dominic Ryoji Miyahara,
