Your Eminence,

On behalf of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference and the Catholic Church of Japan, I would like to present my sincere and profound condolences to you and the people of your diocese on the occasion of the terrorist suicide bombings on the morning of Easter Sunday at three hotels and three of your churches, St. Anthony’s Shrine in Colombo, St. Sebastian’s Church in Negombo and Zion Church in Batticaloa. The bombings brought about hundreds of deaths and injuries and serious damage to the churches and hotels.

I strongly condemn the perpetrators of such violence. I promise to pray that the Risen Lord might welcome the victims into the communion of love and peace of the Divine Trinity and that the injured be restored as soon as possible. At the same time, I hope to support you and your people as far as possible.

With respectful regards and prayerful wishes, I remain

Yours devoted in the Risen Lord,

Nagasaki, 22nd April

Joseph M. TAKAMI, PSS
Archbishop of Nagasaki
President of the CBCJ
