The Committee for the Liturgy aims at implementing and encouraging the spirit of Sacrosanctum Concilium of Vatican II, subsequent guidelines for the universal Church, and the decisions of the Bishops’ Conference of Japan. The committee provides for the composition of Japanese translations of the liturgical texts that take into account what is adaptable to Japan, and studies and guides how it should be put into practice. The committee is engaged in the translation and revision of the rituals for the Sacraments and Sacramentals, including the Roman Missal, issues the Lectionary, and edits the hymnal. The committee is also engaged in fostering the renewal of the liturgy in cooperation with other related committees. The committee maintains contact with the Congregation for Divine Worship and the Discipline of the Sacraments.
