The bishops of Japan, taking the issue of child sexual abuse by clergy seriously, issued Concerning the Sexual Abuse of Minors on June 21, 2002, and established a desk to protect the rights of children and women. In February 2025, the desk was redesignated a section and provides support to parishes with a focus on networking.
From the beginning of his papacy, the late Pope Francis sincerely addressed the issue of child sexual abuse by clergy, making the protection of children and vulnerable adults a priority and implementing various reforms, a spirit that continues to this day.
