In cooperation with the Dicastery for Promoting Christian Unity and the Dicastery for Interreligious Dialogue, this Committee promotes unity among Christian denominations as well as dialogue and cooperation with other religions including Buddhism, Shinto, and Islam.
It was formed by the merger of the Section for Inter-religious Dialogue and the Section for Ecumenism in 2025. Through collecting materials from Japan and abroad, co-hosting the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity, and exchanging information on theology, Scripture and liturgy, the Committee works with dioceses to deepen mutual understanding of faith and culture.
