The CBCJ takes very seriously the problem of sexual abuse of children by clergy and Religious. Therefore on June 21, 2002, the conference issued Message on Sexual Abuse against Minors, and set up a desk within the conference to advocate on behalf of the rights of children and women.
In 2013, the conference issued Manual of Procedures for Responding to Sexual Abuse against Minors by Clerics, and is now in the process of revising that manual.
In addition, in fiscal year 2016, the conference sponsored the first “National Meeting of Diocesan Leaders.” There will be follow-up in each diocese to develop structures and training programs.
